Need a Trainer? How About Your Phone?

Quick to fall off the New Year’s resolution bandwagon? Memphis-based Extracon Science LLC is expanding its business model to target consumers in need of some motivation to stick to exercise routines or a goal to quit smoking.
Extracon has designed and patented ECFit, an accountability technology that allows users to program text or phone call reminders of their workout schedule — and checks to make sure they follow through.
The service was formerly offered for a fee, but now users can use the service for free by visiting the company’s Web site at www.extracon.com.
“After signing up online for a weekly exercise schedule and setting workout goals, ECFit will contact you as you specify,” Extracon owner Jesse Hercules said in a statement.
The company will continue to market the service to large companies and fitness institutions for a fee.
Hercules says Extracon has already landed a deal to provide the service to 5,000 people at an Indiana hospital.
Because users interact with the service and provide feedback, companies can track how many of their employees are following through with fitness programs and reward those who stay on task.
