Memphis Startup Weekend begins Friday, open house on Saturday

WHAT: Memphis Startup Weekend is a three-day event that brings 100 great minds together to form a viable business. 

Startup Weekend, www.startupweekend.com,  recruits a highly motivated group of developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and more to a 54-hour event that builds communities, companies and projects. By the end of the weekend a viable business is built, a management team is put in place and each participant has a piece of ownership. 

Founded in 2007 in Boulder, CO, by Andrew Hyde, the weekend is a concept of a conference focusing on learning by creating. It is known for its quick decisions, 'out of the box' thinking, unique facilitation technique and letting the founders show what they can do. The program has already met with success in Boulder, Toronto, New York, Hamburg, Houston, West Lafayette, Boston, Washington DC and more.

Most work will be done at the Mercury Technology Launchpad Room on the 1st floor of EmergeMemphis 

WHEN: Friday, May 30 - Sunday, June 1

• Friday, May 30, 6 p.m. - networking and pitches made
• Friday, May 30, 7:30 p.m. - business or product voted on and selected
• Saturday, May 31, 8:30 a.m. - work starts on business development
• Saturday, May 31, 2-4 p.m. - open house, opportunity to see prototype, story boards and test product
• Sunday, June 1, 8:30 a.m. - work on development continues
• Sunday, June 1, 7:30 p.m. - company launched

LaunchMemphis is a collaboration that resulted from the energy that was created by Startup Weekend.
